On the firewall

Sometimes it so amazes me how much faith people have in their creations. For example - firewalls, or, to be precise, that part of it that blocks the web sites based on content. I was doing a search on Bette Midler’s photos only to find out that:
a) most of the sites in Google’s results are some kinds of automatic link farms, that supply bunch of links as a result so the owner gets paid by click;
b) rest of the sites vary in tasteless design and number of banners employed but have rare, scarce if any, information let alone - decent photos;
b) most of the sites that might have contained some useful information are blocked by firewall. Why? Have no idea…

I have only been living in US for 10 years, so what I say not necessarily may be true, but the way I see it, this country has too much “politically correct” stuff going on that will not benefit even those, who earn political capital on it. This is especially true with all the late events with show “24. I don’t watch it, but it really looks stupid to me when someone feels upset that some terrorists portrayed as Muslims. So what? It’s been dozens of years during wich Russians were portrayed as cruel, nasty animals, terrorists, villains, stupid morons, sneaky bastards, and so on and so forth. So, should I start filing class action suit against all production companies for diffamation of the image of honest russians, especially those who wants to become an american citizens, but are typecast by all these movies as a life-threatening monsters? Somehow it had never occured to us, russians, that we can earn from the system. These days things are going to change.

Summarizing, you may twist it any way you want but no matter what you call shit it will nonetheless smell like shit. And no matter what laws you going to pass through Congress, the shit will come out of the ass, whether you want it or not. So if yet another “politically correct” bill will stinks like shit - you’ll know where it’s coming from.

BeCool

Nice movie. It’s exactly 10 years after Get Shorty, but from old cast they left only Travolta, DeVito and Harvey Keitel. The rest of the cast is new. Basically the whole movie (as the predecessor) is about Chilli Palmer, couple of gangs and couple of moguls-to-be trying to set up each other in order to get a contract on rising star singer Linda Moon. Martin Weir adoring Palmer’s new car (guess what kind of cadillac he got this time). Unfortunately there’s not much after this about Martin Weir, but there’s a lot of various gangsters, russians (geez, where the hell thew saw russians like these?), white gangsters who speak like black gangsters, black gangsters who speak like president of Harvard University. Uma Thurman is great, John Travolta is great, rest of the crowd playing pretty much themselves, so it’s no big deal. Two really bright moments - the very beginning where Chilli Palmer talks about sequels and in the middle of the movie the speech that Cedric the Entertainer gives to the russians.

It all boils down to this - if you have an evening to kill, and if you saw Get Shorty - go for this one. It’s not Oskar movie, but well worth your ten bucks.
